“Saturday 21st of October Connect Coffee Roasters had the pleasure to host the first weaving workshop in Nairobi in collaboration with Soumaya founder of Happynas. The art of weaving can be used to make rugs, clothes, accessories, wall hangings… And so much more! But for this first workshop we thought it would be a great idea to make coasters. It’s the perfect project for beginners as it does not take too much effort and time.
Six motivated and curious ladies showed up at 10 am to learn how to weave and they did not disappoint. Their focus and commitment was to ensure that they finish their coaster. The first step was to warp the cardboard looms that were provided.
The participants were taught how to do the twinning, tabby stitch and how to make a triangle. Finally, demonstrated how to secure the weave and finish up neatly with the hem stitch.
It was a lovely experience and the participants enjoyed it. They were also happy to go home with their loom and some yarn to keep practising in their own time.
Weaving is a beautiful craft that can be very therapeutic and it deserves to be shared and known. That’s why Connect Coffee extends the passion to make life better by giving opportunity to individuals like Soumaya to share in the spirit of art & talent.
We hope to host another enjoyable event together. www.happynass.co.uk
